Frey has loved to write since they were a child. After leaving home in rural southwest Michigan to attend university in Northern Kentucky, they shifted gears from creative writing to journalism— a switch that transpired a slow disintegration of their creative spirit. After graduating in 2020 at the beginning of the global pandemic, they became a pastry chef and resurrected their love for creative writing.
